If you’re thinking about a 3D printer do it. Do it. Do it. It’s addictive. It’s fun. And it’s way more practical than I expected. I have the Bambu A1 and from a usability point of view, this isn’t design heavy or technical to run. You don’t need to model anything yourself. You open the app, choose a file, press print on your phone, and it prints. Once it’s sent, it’s fully hands off. You can get on with your day, leave the house, or go to bed and it just runs. When it’s finished, it lets you know. It’s compact enough for a home setup, quieter than I thought it would be, and the consistency has been solid. I haven’t had to constantly tweak settings or babysit prints. Most of what I’m using it for is functional. Storage pieces, holders, clips, organisers. Small problem solving things that actually make a space work better instead of just adding more stuff. That said, there’s still plenty of room for the fun little things too. The kind of prints you don’t need, but end up using every day once they exist. This video showcases a custom 3d print designed to act as a camera shutter remote. The mechanism successfully holds a photography remote and its plunger operates as intended, demonstrating the versatility of 3d printing. However, despite the successful 3d print, the project is ultimately a failed 3d print because the digital camera remote itself was defective from the start. This is one of those projects I didn’t really talk about… because technically, the print worked perfectly. The problem? The remote shutter itself was junk. The idea was simple: mount a wireless remote shutter in a 3D printed holder so that every time my printer finishes a layer, it moves over and presses a small plunger. That plunger clicks the remote.
