There are a lot of ways to do front raises, but there’s only 1 best way… First, as with any muscle you’re training, you should take a minute to consider how that muscle is built to move and what is its natural path. If you examine your front delt you’ll notice that it connects to your upper arm bone (humerus) at one end, and your collar bone (clavicle) at the other end. You’ll see that it runs up and in towards your mid line. So as you raise the weight, follow that natural path… from out side your hip, then up-and-in towards your midline. At the contraction your hand should be about straight out from your chin. Next, consider the best hand position to isolate that target muscle. We want to remove any extra help that the target muscles gets from other muscles so the target muscle does all the work. As you turn your palm up, you can see and feel how that front delt rotates to the top, where it takes over the majority of the lifting. If you rotate your palm down, you’ll notice how the middle delt muscle comes over the top and assists the front delt. If you keep your mind-muscle connection focused on your target muscle, isolating it and making it work through its natural path, then this will all click for you… And you’ll be sending a stronger mental signal to that muscle resulting in much greater muscle fiber recruitment and thus, better results.
