This cute little cat just adopted me. I am taken guys. If a cat randomly comes and rubs on your legs, it’s actually very normal cat behavior 🐱 Here are the main reasons: 1. Marking you as “theirs” Cats have scent glands on their cheeks, forehead, and body. When they rub against you, they’re leaving their scent — basically saying: “You’re safe. You’re part of my space.” It’s not ownership in a controlling way — it’s more like social bonding. 2. They feel safe around you Cats don’t rub against people they’re scared of. If a cat approaches and rubs on you, it usually means: You seem calm You don’t look threatening Your body language feels safe 3. They want attention It can also mean: “Pet me.” “Talk to me.” “Notice me.” Some cats are very social and just enjoy human interaction. 4. They might want food If it happens near meal times or outside a house, the cat might associate humans with food.

One will jump into your lap in 2 seconds. One will observe you for 2 months. Just because one cat is friendly doesn’t mean the other is “attitude.” They have different personalities, different trauma, different comfort levels. Just like humans, they have boundaries. Cats get labeled as “low maintenance,” “picky,” or “difficult”, when in reality, they’re just specific.. Here are a few things behavior science (and living with cats) has taught me👇 • Cats show trust through proximity. A cat choosing to rest near you is often a bigger sign of bonding than constant interaction. • Rotating food doesn’t automatically make cats picky. When done slowly and predictably, rotation can actually build flexibility and confidence. When given a choice, cats don’t eat the same thing every day. Controlled variety can reflect that reality. Finding a food and treat brand that offers a lot of variety in proteins, textures, and food options helps give your cat the variety they crave. A bird feeder outside a window. Moving furniture to create new pathways. Adding vertical space. Small environmental changes can make a huge difference. Many “behavior problems” are unmet needs. Bored, under-stimulated cats often get labeled as difficult, when what they really need is fulfillment.
