Trap, Neuter & Return (TNR) Ballymoney. Volunteers Michaela & Conor conducting TNR at a rural site. TNR is used as a humane method of population control in feral cats. Here we are returning 6 feral cats following neutering. Feral cats are not socialized to humans- meaning they have grown up with little to no human contact. This makes them different from your pet cats. Whilst they are the same species- their socialization to humans is different. Meaning feral cats have not been exposed to human touch, interaction, playing etc. Therefore, making them fearful of humans and confinement. TNR involves using a humane trap, to capture cats to be taken to the vets. Whereby they are vet health checked, neutered/spayed, treated for parasites including fleas/worms & ear tipped. Ear tipping is completed whilst the cat is under sedation, it involves cutting a small piece of the top of the ear- allowing it to be made obvious a cat has been part of a TNR project. ✅TNR stops the breeding cycle of cats and therefore improves their lives while preventing reproduction. ✅TNR relieves cats of the constant stresses of mating and pregnancy ✅Mating behaviors cease or reduce, like roaming, yowling, spraying, and fighting. ✅Cats live healthier lives Feral cats are returned to their original locations following neutering. Whereby carers provide food, water & shelter. Effective TNR ensures feral cats have access to food, water &shelter. #northcoast #catrescue #northernireland #trapneuterreleaseeartippedcat #trapneuterreturn

In March, the nights get louder. You hear cats fighting. You hear them calling. You might think something is wrong. But nothing is wrong. Cats are seasonal breeders. As daylight increases, their hormones activate and mating season begins. That “noise” isn’t chaos. It’s nature following its calendar. What we hear as disturbance… is actually survival. But without spaying and neutering, this natural cycle turns into: • Overpopulation • Sick kittens • Shorter lives • More suffering on the streets Understanding is the first step. Compassion is the second. Follow us for science-based cat education and real street stories 🐾❤️ #cats #catbehavior #animalfacts #streetcats #spayneuter

Unwanted kittens get dumped at Wellington, or elsewhere. Females can get pregnant starting at 4 months of age, and the cycle of mating, pregnancy, and birth will continue until they die or are sterilized. Their bodies are often broken by this, as was the case with poor Welli: we got her out of the dump, but pregnancy killed her. streetcatsofvis.com/lucky-welli Intact males fight, inflicting serious wounds that become infected and do real damage. They also mate with any female in heat, including their own relatives. Female cats can have at least two litters per year, with an average of four kittens per litter for street cats. When cats are dumped, breeding goes unchecked, cats multiply, and suffering increases. TNR won’t wipe out the species, as some people fear. There will always be kittens somewhere! Sterilizing street cats as soon as they’re old enough prevents so many unwanted pregnancies, and so much suffering. This is why we do it. #TNR #TNRworks #kastracija #sterilizacija #napušteneživotinje
