A few tips for dropping on steeper waves. 1- Because the wave is steeper, you can start angling a bit earlier as you paddle for it. That way, you will start generating speed to the right or to the left as soon as the wave will pick you. This is crucial to keep up with a fast-breaking wave. 2- As soon as you feel you have caught the wave, take off with commitment. It is crucial not to hesitate at this stage. 3- As you take off, you want to distribute your weight over the back foot to prevent a nose dive. Stay compressed. When you are done dropping the wave, redistribute your weight above both feet to keep accelerating towards the shoulder. how your legs affect weight distribution while paddling when you lie on the board, your goal is to keep your body weight centered around your chest — that’s where the board glides best. any mistake with your legs instantly affects balance and slows you down. let’s compare two positions: ✅ correct leg position • legs together • feet slightly engaged and pointed back • heels above the water (not dragging) • light tension in your core and glutes • body aligned in one straight line effect: • weight shifts forward, tail lifts slightly • less drag and better glide • straighter line through the water • more speed and stability ❌ wrong position • legs apart or loose • feet relaxed and hanging • hips dropping down • too much movement in the lower body effect: • weight shifts backward • tail sinks deeper • more water resistance • board slows down and wobbles while paddling why it happens: your legs act like a lever. when they’re loose or spread apart, your body line breaks and your center of gravity moves backward. but when your legs are tight and extended, they lengthen your body and drive the weight forward — right where the board glides the fastest. i teach these small but fundamental details — follow for more 🌊🏄‍♂️ #surfskate #surf #tutorial #surfskateacademy #surftraining #surfcoach #surfbetter
