It’s Thyme to Eat and this time we hit up @chasintailsss Tails in Fairfax, VA. Wifey’s headed out of town, so we kicked off date night early. We’ve been seeing this place all over social media for their All-You-Can-Eat seafood boils and ribeye boards, so we had to see if the $218 Royalty Tier was worth it. There are three tiers. We went all in with the Royalty, which gives access to the full menu—no restrictions. Here’s the breakdown: Starters Oysters were clean but forgettable. The spinach + crab dip had big jumbo lump flavor—could’ve used more Old Bay. Charbroiled oysters missed the mark. But the catfish nuggets and honey sriracha shrimp? Solid win. Surf & Turf Board Ribeye was cooked well but lacked salt. Australian king prawns were excellent. Scallops were fine. The potatoes + broccolini? Good, but we didn’t want to fill up too soon. Lobster Garlic Noodles Came with a whole lobster—tail fried, body steamed. Loved it. The noodles were overcooked though—gummy texture. Seafood Boil King crab legs were well-cooked but small. Our server said Royalty Tier orders get smaller legs since they’re unlimited. Snow crab legs, on the other hand, were steamed perfectly and paired with a lemon garlic butter that hit every note. Ordered another lobster tail—no regrets. Michaela got the crab cakes, but they weren’t DMV-approved. Missing mustard, lemon, Worcestershire. Dessert Fried cheesecake + beignets + vanilla ice cream. Beignets were fresh but the dough was missing sugar and vanilla. The ice cream? Surprisingly memorable. Final Verdict The Royalty Tier isn’t worth the $218. If you go, the Premium Tier is your best bet—still gets you all the essentials at a better price. Staff was excellent and the service was smooth throughout. Would we go back?
