You think it’s just gas or stomach cramps — but shifting pain can mean something far worse 😟 Appendicitis pain doesn’t always hit suddenly — it builds quietly and moves when it’s too late ⚠️ If you catch it early, you can prevent rupture and infection from spreading 🚨 Watch for these signs before it turns dangerous: • Pain that starts near the belly button, then shifts to the lower right • Nausea or vomiting that won’t settle • Fever with abdominal pain that gets worse when touched • Constipation or inability to pass gas • Loss of appetite with increasing discomfort • Pain that intensifies when walking or coughing • Bloating that feels tight and painful • Sudden urge to curl up and not move Like and follow first, then comment “Reset” — I’ll DM you a free checklist to spot early appendicitis symptoms before it gets serious 💬📩 #gutemergency #appendicitissigns #abdominalpainawareness #healthcheckalert #reelwellnessguide #ukhealthcare #usahealthreels #emergencyawareness #resetyourbody #everydayhealthsigns

In the recovery period of having my appendix out, I’m on the flip side of the surgery experience. Here are 5 things I’m doing as a Surgery PA during my post operative recovery: 1 - prioritizing rest. Early to bed. Naps? Yes, please. 2 - asking for help & not feeling guilt that my kiddos are watching a movie right now 3 - being cognizant of nutrition. Focusing on protein intake, drinking lots of water and probiotics. 4 - being consistent with my collagen supplements from @modere_us . 5 - gentle movement, stretching and listening to my body. #postop #appendectomy #surgerypa #surgery #surgeryrecovery #postoperative #appendicitis #generalsurgery #paschool #PhysicianAssistant #physicianassociate

Strep is the leading factor for appendicitis. Even chronic appendicitis is caused by strep. Strep bacteria causes the appendix to deteriorate and become inflamed. Appendicitis is often precipitated by food poisoning. However, the appendix have been weakedn already (by strep). The strep bacteria factor is often present even if your appendicitis was not caused by food poisoning. If the immune system isn't strong enough and there is too much strep that has been present for too many years, this can wear out your appendix - leading it to rupture or inflammatory condition. Pathogens look for weak spots, so if someone has a sensitive appendix and bacteria are raging through the intestinal track looking for places to interfere, they can create appendicitis too. Lots of options when it comes to pain control after a surgery. Bottom line, talk to your doctor and come up with the least risky pain control regimen that actually controls your pain. #pain #opioidepidemic #surgery #appendicitis #emergency

Migliorini She ran the London Marathon… with acute appendicitis. This woman felt unwell from the start of the race — turns out, her appendix was inflamed the whole time. The appendix is a tiny pouch off your bowel that doesn’t really do much anymore, but if a bit of poo blocks it, it can get irritated, inflamed, and even burst. That’s when you end up in hospital. We usually try antibiotics first — but if that doesn’t work, out it comes. It’s one of the most useless organs in your body… but when it goes bad, you’ll know about it. #App#AppendicitisAwarenessr#MarathonRunnere#EmergencyMedicineM#DrMichaelSaysndonMarathon2025

When kids complain of sudden belly pain, especially around their bellybutton to the right lower side, most parents (and pediatricians!) are concerned about appendicitis. The jump test is a quick and effective way to check at home! Have your child jump off something or just in place. If they have significantly worse pain when jumping, it’s time to get evaluated asap. A study in 2019 found that kids who had increased pain with jumping had a 70% chance of having appendicitis. Of course, you should always check with your doc if you’re concerned, but this can be a good at home test to see if you need to go to the ER vs call your pediatrician!

🧸 Pediatric abdominal pain? Don’t brush it off. It’s not always “just a stomach ache.” 🚑👶 ⚠️ Kids crash fast — and abdominal pain can be the only early sign of something serious like: 🔹 Appendicitis 🔹 Intussusception 🔹 UTI or sepsis 🔹 Even diabetic ketoacidosis 😳 👂 What they can’t say with words, their vitals, behavior, and exam will tell you. You just have to look a little closer. 👨⚕️ Pediatric assessment is a different language. Learn it. Master it. Use it.

Appendicitis usually starts as a vague pain near the belly button… then moves to the right lower abdomen and gets worse over time. ✅ Common signs: • pain that worsens and localizes to the right lower side • nausea/vomiting • loss of appetite • low-grade fever • pain when walking, coughing, or jumping • tenderness/guarding ⚠️ Don’t ignore it. A ruptured appendix can become a serious infection fast. If you’re having worsening right-sided abdominal pain or feel faint, weak, or feverish → get evaluated ASAP. 📌 Save this for later & share with someone who “waits it out.” #appendicitis #medicalcondition #medicalemergency #nurse #nursepractitioner

Appendicitis doesn’t always start dramatically and that’s where parents get stuck. Here’s what it often looks like as it evolves ⬇️ ➡️ Early presentation (easy to miss): ⚠️Vague belly pain (often around the belly button) ⚠️Decreased appetite Mild nausea or vomiting ⚠️ “Just not themselves” ⚠️ Low-grade fever or no fever at all This stage can feel confusing and non-specific, but it’s the beginning. ➡️ Worsening / classic presentation: ⚠️ Pain migrates to the right lower abdomen ⚠️ Pain worsens with movement, walking, coughing, or jumping ⚠️ Guarding or rebound tenderness (try to tickle them or age appropriate exam and see if they push hands away) ⚠️Increasing nausea or vomiting ⚠️ Fever may appear, inc HR Advanced or ruptured appendicitis: ⚠️ Severe or spreading abdominal pain ⚠️High fever ⚠️Lethargy ⚠️Significant vomiting ⚠️ Sometimes pain briefly IMPROVES before worsening again (this can trick parents!) At this stage, complications and longer hospital stays are more likely. ⚠️ Why urgent care isn’t the right stop: Appendicitis requires labs, imaging, surgical consultation, and monitoring. Urgent care can’t safely rule it out and delays matter. 👉 Go straight to the ER. Save this for the moment your mom-brain is tired and second-guessing everything. ⏳ Delay = Danger! Appendicitis can turn fatal fast. Appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the appendix, a small finger-like structure attached to the large intestine. It is one of the most common causes of acute abdominal pain requiring emergency surgery. 🔍 How does it start? It usually begins with obstruction of the appendix lumen (due to fecolith, lymphoid hyperplasia, infection, or rarely tumors). This leads to increased pressure, bacterial overgrowth, and inflammation, which can rapidly worsen. ⚠️ Classic Symptoms (Don’t Miss These!) • Pain starting around the umbilicus → later shifting to right lower abdomen (McBurney’s point) • Loss of appetite (Anorexia) • Nausea & vomiting • Low-grade fever • Pain worsens on movement, coughing, or walking 💡 Important Clinical Signs • Rebound tenderness • Guarding & rigidity • Positive Rovsing’s sign / Psoas sign 💥 Why is it dangerous? If not treated early, the appendix may rupture (perforation) leading to: • Peritonitis (infection of abdominal cavity) • Abscess formation • Can become life-threatening 🧪 Diagnosis • Clinical examination is key • Blood tests → ↑ WBC count • Ultrasound / CT scan for confirmation 🔪 Treatment • Emergency appendectomy (surgical removal) • Antibiotics to control infection Early treatment = complete recovery Delay = serious complications 🚨 Golden Point: Not every stomach pain is simple gastritis. Right lower abdominal pain + fever = Think appendicitis first! #explorepage #mednotes #mbbs #appendicitis #medicalstudents
