Let me say I never learned how to understand fractions visually until about a year ago. Everything I know about understanding fractions I learned from @mixandmath I absolutely taught my students to just multiply across.  Because I didn't know better. And let me say... There’s nothing wrong with that!! There’s also nothing wrong with giving a little intentional time to help them understand the conceptual understanding behind “Just multiply straight across.” You can do both #mathteachersofinstagram #mathintervention

I just did this in my two-year algebra class, which has students who historically failed math repeatedly.
