One of our favorite end of day games, the Name Game. You call a person’s name and replace them in the circle while they call a person and replace them and so on and so forth. Say the wrong name or move too slow and you’re eliminated. Can also be used as a warm up. #theatrekidshavemorefun #improvgameideas #theatreclasswarmup #improvgames #improvisationtheatre

Mr. Owen’s classes got creative today and played some different math games. In this specific video they had to get the cards to equal 6 through addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Once they get to the number specified that round it’s a race to see which team can slap hands the fastest. It was a good time.

For classroom teachers heading back into school, theater games can help salve the wounds of the past year. You certainly don't need to be a drama teacher to play them. Put games in the center of your morning meetings, brain breaks, and closing circles. In addition to social-emotional support, they can reinforce academic facts so kids are learning through play. An example of one of these games is “Machine”. It is a classic theater exercise that supports community, listening and positive risk-taking. 🖋 Create a title that supports your social-emotional learning goals like “My Year of Distance Learning” or “Summer Vacation.” 📣Have students add on with sound and motion one at a time. Encourage vocal variety and physical levels 🔧The machine can slow down, speed up or even break! Here, watch our teachers play Machine as we model the game for students during an in-school residency. When they play, students are part of a team working together to express something wordlessly and using their body as an instrument. This game is also magical at helping kids practice listening and turn-taking. Weave it into your ELA studies by having students make machines for one of the characters in the literature you are reading or an event in history. As always, DM me with questions or learn more about our in-school residencies at childsplayny.com

I definitely sang Black Hole Sun all morning after playing this (dating myself here) but of course my students looked at me like I was a nut ⚫️☀️. This game will be in volume 3 of my games pack! Coming soon 💕#classroomgames #kindergartenteachers #kindergartenteacher #kindergarten #teachers

Have you played Empire with your class yet? 🎉 It’s an amazing classroom game that builds community, encourages teamwork, and gets your students thinking! Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ Each student secretly writes down a name or the theme of a topic they pick (ex. Ice cream flavors, famous sports players, movies, flowers, classroom supplies, etc) 2️⃣ The papers are collected and read aloud one by one. I usually read through them twice. 3️⃣ Students take turns guessing who ‘owns’ a name/theme, and if they guess correctly, the ‘owner’ joins their empire. 4️⃣ The goal? Grow the biggest empire while keeping your identity a secret for as long as possible! Tips: -The one who has guessed the other persons word is the leader of the empire so they act as the spokesperson (others on the empire may give their input) -multiple empires may form. Eventually just one willl win it all. -I usually split my class into two groups so it’s easier to manage once they know how to play well enough. This game is perfect for building collaboration, encouraging critical thinking, and giving your students a chance to unwind while still engaging their minds. Bonus: It works for lots of ages and is super easy to adapt! Try it out, and let the empires rise! 🏰👑 Let me know if you give it a try! 🎉 Circle Game 🎉 It's a great, fun, and engaging game and my students' favorite game as well! 🤩✨ Plus, it's an interactive way to reinforce learning while keeping them active. In this game, we place different elements in a circle shape. 🎭📚🎨🔢 While music 🎶 plays, students dance 💃🕺 around the carts. When the teacher stops the music, students quickly choose a cart and stand behind one of the elements. The teacher then turns their back to the students and randomly calls out one of the elements. 🤔 Any student standing behind that element is out of the game and steps aside. 🚶♂️🚶♀️ The game continues until only one student remains—the winner! 🏆👏 We played this game with school supplies elements you can play it with any subjects you want. And as alwaysss... I hope you get a chance to play and enjoy it too 🥰
