I turned up for my first session with him expecting drills, footwork, the usual trial assessment most coaches put you through ⠀ He hit with me for about 90 seconds ⠀ Then he stopped, walked over, and asked me three questions, what tournaments are you playing in the next 6 months, what’s the one shot that’s losing you matches, and what does your week look like outside of tennis ⠀ That was the session, the rest of the hour was him writing on a piece of paper ⠀ He handed me a 4 month plan before I left, every block had a purpose, every week had a focus, every session had a job ⠀ And I realised in that moment that coaching at the top isn’t about hitting balls, it’s about designing the path ⠀ The hitting was the cheapest part of what he did, the planning was where the real value lived ⠀ Now look at how most tennis coaches operate, you turn up, you ask “what do you want to work on”, you hit balls for an hour, the player leaves ⠀ There’s no plan, no path, no purpose, just an hour of tennis and a payment at the end ⠀ The coaches earning real money in this sport sell the plan, the hour is just one piece of it ⠀ Online coaching is how you deliver the plan at scale, weekly programmes, video analysis, tournament prep, all for 30 minutes a week per client ⠀ Follow if you want to coach the way players who actually make it get coached​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
