Be careful of which QR codes you’re scanning. 📱⚠️

Be careful of which QR codes you’re scanning. 📱⚠️ Kelowna RCMP are warning the public after fraudulent QR codes were discovered pasted over the tap readers on 75 parking meters in the city! The fake decals (which even mimicked parts of the official PayByPhone logo) were spotted and reported by alert parking services staff on Feb. 12. City crews removed them all within hours, and officials believe no one fell victim to the scam—quick action likely prevented a bigger fraud! The City of Kelowna doesn’t use QR codes for parking payments at all, so if you see one on a meter, don’t scan it! Instead, use the official PayByPhone app by manually entering the meter number, or pay the old-fashioned way. RCMP is investigating, and security footage has even helped identify suspects involved in placing the stickers. Stay vigilant out there, everyone—QR code scams are popping up more often. Report anything suspicious to Kelowna Parking Services (250-862-8585) or RCMP. 💙 #Kelowna #ScamAlert #QRCodeScam #StaySafe #RCMP

Multiple counties across the state have chosen to deactivate their automatic license plate readers due to public concerns over safety and privacy. However, Yakima will not be following this trend. Last Monday, the city of Prosser announced in a press release that it would deactivate Flock Safety cameras, citing operational cost, effectiveness, and community feedback. Yakima was one of the first cities in Washington to adopt the Flock camera system and now has over 70 cameras, with the county considering adding more. 🔗 to the full story is in our BIO -------------------------- #foryou #fyp #flock #camera #cameras #flockcameras #license #plate #reader #licenseplaterecognition #licenseplate #licenseplates #privacy #concern #concerns #privacyconcerns #flocksafety #crime #prevention #crimeprevention #data #dataretention #public #safety #publicsafety

A driver patiently waited for the QR scanner to read the code on her phone, unaware that the QR code needed to be facing the reader. After several attempts and about a minute of waiting, she adjusted the angle, the scanner picked it up, and the gate opened 👀😭🌊 Credits: @browncow32 Follow @waveroom.brampton for more Brampton content! 🇨🇦 We aim to keep our space respectful. Brrrr! We’re with you, Edmonton! On a cold winter’s day, there’s nothing better than getting into a toasty warm vehicle. But don’t spoil that warm feeling by allowing criminals to steal your ride. Never leave your vehicle running and unattended, even in your driveway. Take your keys with you and always lock your vehicle. Use a remote starter, when available. Park in well-lit areas. Ensure windows and doors are closed and locked.

A new paid parking system goes live March 1 For Canmore residents, the biggest change is how free parking is accessed. Locals will still receive three free hours per day, but those hours must now be activated through PayByPhone, a web browser, or an app. Pay machines will no longer work for free parking. Importantly, parking rates in Canmore are not changing: $5 per hour during peak season (May 15 to Oct. 14) and between $2 and $3 per hour in the off-season, depending on the day. #BowValleyInsider #canmore #canmorealberta #downtowncanmore #canmorekananaskis
