CODE BLUE 🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵 “Blue code” is generally used to indicate a patient requiring resuscitation or otherwise in need of immediate medical attention, most often as the result of a respiratory or cardiac arrest. Each hospital, as a part of a disaster plan, sets a policy to determine which units provide personnel for code coverage. In theory, any medical professional may respond to a code, but in practice the team makeup is limited to those who had advanced cardiac life support or other equivalent resuscitation training. Frequently, physicians from anesthesia, emergency medicine and internal medicine are charged in the team. A rapid response team leader or a physician is responsible for directing the resuscitation effort and is said to “run the code”. #codeblue #cardiacarrest #emergency #hospital #doctor #nurses #emergencycode #viralreels #defibrillator #cpr #cardiapulmonaryresuscitation Code blue is activate for ????

You will never forget your first Code Blue! 🚑 Has anyone seen or experienced a Code Blue in their clinicals?? It can be scary, sad, and chaotic, usually all at once! Try to stay calm, and focus on your skills. Many hospitals run debriefing sessions following a Code Blue. This allows for emotional processing of a stressful and traumatic event, as well as reflecting on how the team can improve their process. How to handle your first Code Blue: 1) Assess your patient: - Remember your ABCs: check Airway, Breathing, and Circulation (pulse-check) 2) Call for help! - Activate the emergency response system 3) No pulse? Start chest compressions - Push hard: At least 2 inches deep on an adult patient - Push fast: Aim for 100 beats per minute 4) Have a second set of hands? Time for O2 - Connect the bag valve mask to oxygen at 100% - Open the airway and provide breaths every 5-6 seconds 5) Grab the defibrillator - Attach the pads to the patient - Check for a shockable rhythm, stand clear when a shock is delivered! - Continue with CPR between rhythm checks and shocks 6) Stay calm: help is on the way - The Code Team is made up of critical care experts such as physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists who will run the code - Are you the primary nurse? Make sure you are there to answer questions about the Patient! - Just a bystander? There are many roles in a code! Step in to perform chest compressions or rescue breaths. Grab necessary supplies. Be the recorder and jot down who is doing what and when!
