here’s how i learned how to code 👩🏻‍💻👐🏼 even though this process can really be applied to learning anything new. at the start of the semester, i told myself i wanted to at least understand basic programming. you don’t need to know coding in biotech but i thought it’d be a useful skill to have to expand with. i’m still a beginner but now i can actually read code (on a basic level), use functions, and write simple programs. with the help of ai, there’s so much potential for coding beyond that. the best day to start was yesterday so start now ✨

Coding has never been easier ⬇️⬇️⬇️ If you’re a student just trying to survive your first Python or Java class, you don’t need to become a “hacker.” You just need to learn the system. Here are 5 habits to secure that A in your coding course: 1. Master the “Pseudocode” First: Stop trying to memorize where the brackets and semicolons go. Write out the logic of the problem in plain English first; if you can’t explain what the code should do in a sentence, you’ll never be able to write it in a language. 2. The “Muscle Memory” Rule: You cannot learn coding by watching videos or reading a textbook. You have to physically type the code into your IDE—even if you’re just copying a tutorial—to train your brain to recognize syntax patterns and common errors. 3. Use AI as a Tutor, Not a Ghostwriter: Don’t just ask AI for the final answer. Paste your error message and ask: “Why did this fail and how can I fix the logic?” This turns a frustrating bug into a 30-second private lesson. 4. The “Small Wins” Debugging: Never write 50 lines of code at once and then hit “Run.” Write three lines, test it, and make sure it works before moving on; it’s 10x easier to find one small mistake than to hunt for a needle in a haystack later. 5. Comment Your Future Self: Every time you write a line of code you actually understand, write a comment next to it explaining what it does in your own words.
