💔💔💔How my heart went when I saw this news. The closure of Ami Colé isn’t just news—it’s a powerful reminder that even the most groundbreaking, Black-owned beauty brands face huge hurdles in today’s market. Rapid retail expansion comes with massive costs, and structural barriers combined with shrinking funding make survival tougher than ever. This isn’t unique to Ami Colé—for many indie, Black-owned, and minority-owned businesses, the same pressures are forcing difficult decisions and, in some cases, closures. If you care about diversity and representation in beauty, your support matters more than ever. Shop small, support Black-owned and indie brands, and keep these important voices alive. And to @diarrhaxo: thank you for building a legacy and pushing the culture forward. Your impact will be felt for years to come. #AmiCole #BlackOwnedBeauty #SupportIndieBeauty #BeautyIndustry #ShopSmall #InclusiveBeauty #DiversityMatters #FounderStory

#ad The beauty brand that went from Instagram to Sephora stores around the world. 💄 Inspired by the community built at her mom’s hair salon and a decade-long career in the beauty industry, Diarrha N’Diaye-Mbaye @diarrhaxo went back to her roots to create Ami Colé @byamicole — a for us, by us beauty brand. 🪞 Paying her homage to her heritage from Senegal to Harlem, Diarrha turned to Instagram to ask her community what they wanted to see on their top shelves. Since then, the brand has built a loyal customer base both online and IRL. 🤩 Watch to find out how Ami Colé took the world by storm and head to the link in bio to learn more about how Meta tools can help grow your biz. 👀

It’s a hard day in the beauty world as Diarrha N’Diaye-Mbaye (@diarrhaxo), founder and CEO of Ami Colé, announces the brand will be closing its doors this September. A heartbreaking reminder of the challenges Black-owned brands continue to face, even when they do everything right. “Remember when beauty brands were all about supporting Black-owned businesses back in 2020, from pledging grants to promising to dedicate shelf space? Fast forward to 2024, and a lot of those same brands have quietly moved on. DEI programs are disappearing, funding is drying up, and the beauty industry is back to business as usual. What we know is this: “At the end of the day, while brands are backpedaling, Black-owned beauty is still thriving. Support comes from US, and it looks like making these brands a part of our everyday routines.” Thank you to @byamicole for your contributions and for making sure we are seen. How did @diarrhaxo build her beauty brand, @byamicole into a cult-favorite? Today we’re sitting down with founder, Diarrha N'Diaye-Mbaye to discuss how she took Ami Colé from and idea and a dream to the shelves of Sephora. Comment “292” for a link to listen/watch!

This one hit close 💔 If you’ve ever built something from the ground up… something that you believed in so deeply and it kept you up at night.. then you know how hard it is to walk away from it. 💔 Ami Colé wasn’t just a beauty brand. It was thoughtful. It was intentional. And Diarrha did it with clarity, culture, and care. But what most people don’t see is how lonely the founder journey can get. And getting funding doesn’t fix that. MONEY WITHOUT MENTORSHIP IS JUST PRESSURE… and to clarify, I’m talking REAL non-self serving, UNBIASED mentorship. If your investors only saw you as a box to check during the “inclusive beauty boom” of 2020, then they were never really there to help you win long-term. That’s the part no one tells you. It’s not just about raising money. It’s about knowing how to use it, when to say no, and having the right support to grow without losing yourself. Diarrha — I don’t know you personally, but I just want to say: You built something that made a real impact. And no one can take that away from you. The industry may have failed you, but you made SPACE. And that matters more than anyone chasing a quick exit ever will. — #amicole #inclusivebeauty #beautyindustry #blackownedbusiness #investor

We created the Ami Colé Skin Stick with a lightweight, buildable formula for a reason. While traditional complexion sticks can feel heavy or cakey, ours melts seamlessly into the skin for a natural, second-skin finish. It’s not about masking—it's about enhancing, with a formula that moves with you, never settling into fine lines or dry patches. The Ami Colé Skin Stick is available now at amicole.com and in-store and online at @sephora and @sephoracanada.

DO YOU SEE THIS SKIN?! Finally tried out the @byamicole Skin Enhancing Stick and it’s safe to say I’m obsessed. The coverage, the blendability, the shade made?! — obsessed. The shade i’m wearing is 240 + I’m using the Ami Colé Foundation brush to blend the product. *this is not sponsored — I’m just a huge fan of the brand*

First Ami Colé, now Youthforia. Two very different brands... same outcome. One built on thoughtful inclusivity, the other on viral hype. But both are shutting down this year. Right now, in the current landscape it’s difficult to stay alive in beauty retail in 2025. The market’s oversaturated, discounting is everywhere, and investors expect fast returns.. even in a recession. We need to stop pretending that funding or virality guarantees survival. Because what we’re seeing now is the reality of running a brand today. — #Youthforia #AmiCole #Sephora #BeautyIndustry #InclusiveBeauty #BeautyBrand #BrandFounder
