We had the opportunity to visit our meat this week! Finding a cold storage facility that is willing to work with a small customer has not been easy. Most of these warehouses work with big corporations with hundreds of pallets of products. Thankfully we found the team at Michigan Natural Storage. Roger and Nicole welcomed us with open arms and showed us the ropes when it comes to cold storage warehousing. Cold storage is an integral part of our growth. We don’t have growing barns where we raise animals all year long. We raise them during the growing months and many are all processed at the same time of year, so we need to store the meat during the rest of the year. We left MNS feeling excited for future growth knowing the proteins we work so hard to produce are being closely monitored by their team. A walkthrough of one of our Cold Storage Pods before it was filled with dry goods from Food Banks Canada and sent off for transport on the ice roads. Another step forward in supporting northern communities. NIBI Enviro Tech is proud to have built and prepared food processing pods and cold storage pods for the incredible people of Sambaa K’e First Nation. These units will help the community prepare, preserve, and store food throughout the challenging northern winters, supporting greater food security and long-term sustainability. Before heading north, we were honoured to partner with Food Banks Canada, who generously donated food and dry goods to help stock the pods before they began their journey along the ice roads. 🧊 Water-Cooled Refrigeration System — ⚙️ System Overview The system operates through a continuous refrigerant loop managed by the following key components: 1. Chilled Storage The end-use space where products are kept cold. The display shows a setpoint of 3°C with an actual temperature of -5°C, indicating active cooling is in progress. 2. TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve) Regulates the flow of refrigerant entering the evaporator, controlling superheat for efficient cooling. 3. Accumulator Protects the compressor by ensuring only vapor — not liquid refrigerant — enters the compression stage. 4. Compressor (Green unit) The heart of the system. It compresses low-pressure refrigerant vapor into high-pressure, high-temperature gas. 5. Oil Separator Separates lubricating oil from the refrigerant on the discharge side, returning oil to the compressor to maintain lubrication. 6. Water-Cooled Condenser Rejects heat from the refrigerant using water as the cooling medium, condensing the hot gas into a liquid. 7. Cooling Tower Dissipates the heat absorbed by the condenser water to the atmosphere through evaporative cooling. 8. Water Pump Circulates water between the condenser and the cooling tower. 9. Receiver Stores liquid refrigerant after condensation, ensuring a steady supply to the expansion valve. 10. Filter / Dryer Removes moisture and particulates from the refrigerant to protect system components. 11.
