Fabric collage ‘Mountain woodland’. There is something so satisfying in making these miniature collages. Often I don’t know what I am doing till the colours of the background and the fabrics inspire me. Sometimes it’s hard to film this process effectively as I often need to pause and think and search for what I want. But sometimes it all comes together in one hit, like this one!! 3 years ago I did a whole collection of fabric collage pieces where I embroidered on solid fabrics with monochrome, patterned stitches. It was a labor of love and something I’m still incredibly proud of. I was missing stitching and decided to incorporate more embroidery into my kinusaiga pieces—and the idea was born to recreate some of my previous designs in this art medium. And talk about learning curve, I made so many mistakes, had to redo so many elements but I’m so very elated with this final product. Over 50 hours of stitching later and this 6” x 6” piece is finally display ready! (And while I’m flattered anyone would want to attempt this, I will not be teaching this template, or style or offer any kits.
