“How much does that giant snake eat?” is easily one of our most asked questions. Judith is an 11-year-old Burmese python and a confirmed male now. Like most large constrictors, his metabolism is very slow and he spends a lot of his time being pretty sedentary. That means he doesn’t eat nearly as often as people expect. Judith’s meals are large frozen-thawed rabbits, usually weighing between 5–11 pounds, and he only actually eats about once every 1–4 months. Through the winter, he’s offered food more frequently, but most of the time he simply isn’t interested. Large pythons are very seasonal with their feeding, and that rhythm is driven more by biology than by how warm or cool we keep them. His rabbits for the last year have been lovingly provided by a really cool local family homestead, and we’re super grateful for that partnership. Judith has only been with us for about a year, but he’s already an awesome addition to Lizard Land. His whole “job” here is to help us talk about keeping giant snakes in captivity responsibly, their role as an invasive species in parts of the United States, and the fact that wild Burmese pythons are actually in decline in their native range. He’s a big snake with a big job! 🐍 🦃 Thanksgiving week hours: We’ll be closed on Thursday for the holiday, but open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as usual. #JudithTheBurm #BurmesePython #python #giantsnake #constrictor #snakesofinstagram #reptilesofinstagram #herpetology #herpetoculture #reptileeducation #reptilehusbandry #animalhusbandry #invasivespecies #wildlifeconservation #exoticanimals #zooeducation #reptilerescue #OBXLizardLand #LizardLand #OuterBanks #OBX #Currituck #Moyock #NorthCarolina #NC #Chesapeake #VirginiaBeach #757 #252 #animaleducation

y’all’ were right 😂 he did learn to use the door Judith is a 13’ albino Burmese python, about 97 pounds of very opinionated wet comforter. Burmese pythons are built to be big, slow ambush predators – lots of muscle, long naps, and occasional large meals instead of eating all the time. These snakes are SO good at finding your neck! They instinctively know that if they can coil around a predator's neck, they can stop the attack by choking the predator out. In this scenario, the branches and dense vegetation did not allow me to stand up so I was forced to fight the whole battle on the ground. As a professional, I'm able to handle a snake of this caliber by myself, but it's much smarter to have backup. Never underestimate these snakes, these are POWERFUL animals! . #python #burmesepython #burm #burmese #snake #foryou #fyp #fypシ #explore #explorepage #foryoupage #everglades #florida #floridaman #nature #wildlife #invasivespecies #invasive #nest #eggs #pythonnest #pythoneggs #capture #viral

Snake goes for the cameraman😳 Obviously this snake doesn’t know that the cameraman is always safe so she was doing her best but we weren’t worried😅 This beautiful python has some very special genes which removed all its color and gives her that black reflective color which makes her into a rainbow when she is out in the sunlight🤯 She is protecting those eggs and being a good momma🙌 We are helping her out by removing them and incubating them ourselves but she thinks we’re trying to eat them so thats way she acts like this🙃 Once we remove the eggs she will be able to go eat and be back to her normal behaviors😁

This beautiful snake is a Burmese Python, a species known for its massive size, intricate patterning, and famously calm, steady temperament. Burmese pythons are among the largest snakes in the world, yet they’re just as well known for their gentle, composed nature. This one features the detailed, speckled granite-style patterning that sets certain morphs apart, giving it a textured, almost mosaic look that makes the species even more mesmerizing. They’re observant, slow-moving snakes that enjoy exploring their surroundings, which is exactly what makes clips like this so captivating to watch. Despite their impressive bulk, Burmese pythons are generally very docile and tolerant when cared for properly. With consistent handling and a secure, well-designed enclosure, they become remarkably calm snakes that rarely show defensive behaviour. Many keepers adore them for their majestic appearance, relaxed personality, and the almost puppy-like trust they develop over time—making them unforgettable companions for experienced reptile enthusiasts. #carpetpython #reptiletok #snakereel #snakeknowledge #slime
