Packing my socks for @loveyarnmadrid ❤️🧦 These will be displayed and ready for you to enjoy (and examine my floats!☺️) at the sock workshops that I’m teaching at this coming weekend. I’m kind of kicking myself now for wearing the sock samples.🫣 I can’t resist them though and where I live gets COLD!😅 Once these are washed, de-fluffed and checked for holes, I’ll pack them in the suitcase. I wish I could bring my actual sock drawer! It’s the best way to display them, but I’m not sure what they’d think of that on the plane! Do let me know if there’s any particular sock sample you would like to see. I am also able to bring a few copies of Charming Colorwork socks books with me too. Here’s a great tip for perfectly tensioning your colourwork knitting. By doing this, you’re making the yarn floats go around the outside of your needles and therefore they’re going to be looser and stretchier. Let me know if you’ve tried this and if it’s worked for you? It can be done on socks, mittens, sleeves, basically any colourwork knitting with a small circumference! . ✨Knitting Tutorial: A quick demo of how I knit colorwork socks!✨ . ⭐️I use US Size 2 (2.75mm) tiny circs ~ I like the Chiagoo Twist with interchangeable 2” and 3” tips! I’ve found that working with tiny circulars where one needle is a little longer than the other helps with hand-cramping! ⭐️Keep your tension relaxed! Puckering on your fabric occurs when you pull your CC yarn too tight! ⭐️Don’t let your stitches get bunched up! Keep them spread out on your needles, otherwise you’ll get puckering! . Let’s talk colorwork socks 🤪 Sharing some (beginner) tips I have picked up to try and successfully knit a PAIR of cute ass socks. 1. Go up a needle size 2. Manage float tension 3. Catch floats every 1inch to keep elasticity. Pattern: Rad Radish by @stoneknits

✨How I Knit My Colorwork Socks 🧦 I get asked all the time how I knit my colorwork socks and here are my top tips for you! 1. Hold the yarn the way that is most comfortable for you and gives the best tension 🧶 Proper tension is more important than speed! You can see here that I pick up and drop each color as needed. Fast? Not really, but it works best for me! 2. Use 9” circular knitting needles. This allows you to evenly spread your stitches out to ensure loose floats. My tension is also slightly looser on 9” circular needles so that also helps with stretch! 3. Constantly check the back of your work to make sure your floats aren’t too tight. You can see me checking after every color change in this video! 4. Unpopular opinion: I never catch my floats 😉 For me it makes my knitting too tight and I want as much stretch as possible for my socks! I’m just careful when I put my socks on 🤷‍♀️ Do you have anymore helpful colorwork tips? 🇵🇱⬇️ I have no idea why I haven't tried three-color stranded colorwork before. I guess I was afraid of tangled threads and long floats. But the patterns in Perebory Socks were just begging for a mix of colors. And guess what? It wasn't so bad after all, with three colors it's even more fun. Sure, it's slower, but the effect is great. I hold two threads as I normally would for colorwork, and the third one – which is used the least in a given round – just hangs behind. When necessary, I throw it over the needle. I only catch floats when there are more than 5 stitches in one color. Every few stitches, I adjust the tension– it turned out that with three colors I was keeping the threads a little too loose. If you use a ring for colorwork, there are also versions for more than two threads. Perebory Socks are a perfect project to try colorwork in three colors – you can use it in only selected motifs and see if you like it. Have you already tried knitting with three colors? Bałam się chyba tych plączących się nitek i długich przejść kolorów. Ale wzorki na skarpetkach Perebory aż prosiły się, by mieszać w nich kolory. I co się okazało? Oczywiście wcale nie taki diabeł straszny, a żakard trzema kolorami to jeszcze większa frajda niż dwoma. Fakt, że idzie to wolniej, ale za to efekt świetny. Dwie nitki trzymam tak jak normalnie przy żakardzie, a trzecia – najmniej używana w danym okrążeniu – wisi sobie z tyłu. Kiedy trzeba, narzucam ją na drut. Nitki zawijam dopiero powyżej 5 oczek w jednym kolorze. Co kilka oczek koryguję naprężenie nitek – okazało się, że przy trzech kolorach prowadzę je nieco za luźno. Jeśli ktoś używa pierścionka do żakardu, to są też wersje na więcej niż dwie nitki. Skarpetki Perebory to idealny projekt, aby spróbować żakardu w trzech kolorach – możesz go wpleść tylko w niektóre motywy i sprawdzić, czy się z tym polubisz. 🧵EMBROIDERY THREAD SOCKS🪡 this is by far the most effort i’ve put into a pair of socks💪🏻 anyways - aren’t they cuteee??!!😻 these socks were a bit of a battle to get through but im so happy i put up with the chaos that was 1849682529 ends to manage and then weave in😅 also don’t judge how i wove in my ends please, i am still learning what i like best for weaving in ends on a colourwork project and navigating all the floats🪁 does anyone have a nice way of doing this?? i’d LOVE to know cause what i did has plenty of room for improvement 🤣 if you haven’t seen my story updates about these socks - i made up these charts myself and used purely 100% cotton embroidery thread to knit them. about a month ago i found an old box full of my grandmother’s old embroidery threads from Slovenia and Croatia, and i had this crazy idea to knit colourwork socks with them. i think they turned out really well and i hope she’d be proud of what i created❤️🕊️ i will definitely take some nice photos to give you guys a better look at these socks :) also i’ve never knit socks in 100% cotton before, so fingers crossed they wear okay!!🤞🏻 - Abby W #handknitsocks #knitting #knittinginspiration #handknit #canadianknitter
