Low, hard line drives in BP train the barrel to stay through the zone longer. When the ball leaves on a lower trajectory with carry, it splits outfielders instead of hanging long enough to be tracked down. High fly balls might look good in BP, but low missiles are what get on outfielders fast and turn into gap-to-gap doubles.
