Modern Britain is a multiracial country, but we must never become a multicultural one where shared values disappear and people withdraw into separate worlds. Learning less about each other, trusting less, and fearing more; when that happens, suspicion turns into resentment, and resentment into hate. Some people push these divisions for retweets, likes…even votes. They think it is harmless but we saw its extreme form in Manchester this week when a home grown terrorist decided to kill British Jews, so blinded by his hatred and evil ideology. The one thing that brings us all together is being British. We have to defend the values, language, institutions and culture that made our country great. The Conservative Party I lead will always do so.

Kohen Mattinas had the opportunity to intervene on April 28 at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues under Item 5(g): Thematic dialogue on the financing of Indigenous Peoples’ work and participation across multilateral and regional systems. He raised concerns about the ongoing underfunding of First Nations and the limitations that continue to restrict our ability to plan for long-term, sustainable outcomes across nearly every aspect of our lives. Canada presents itself as a leader in reconciliation, yet it continues to control the terms of our participation and the extent to which we can practice our Sovereignty. He brought further attention to the Breathing Lands, where Canada is advancing critical mineral development in the Ring of Fire through legislation such as Canada’s Bill C-5 and Ontario’s Bill 5. In relation, short-term agreements are being used by Ontario to divide our communities, exploiting conditions of poverty that have been created by Canada itself. Short-term funding agreements and financing tools are presented as opportunities for participation and prosperity under what Canada calls “economic reconciliation,” while in reality, it places the land at risk and gives Canada the underlying authority over decision-making.
