The version where Chopin willingly lent the apartment is a later embellishment. I got this wrong in the video and wanted to set the record straight. A couple more things: 1/ Chopin was living with a roommate during this year (the roommate tended to him during his frequent sicknesses), but I couldn’t find anything that would confirm the roommate’s whereabouts during Chopin’s 3 month absence. But I HIGHLY doubt the roommate was in town while Liszt and Marie were doing what they were doing. 2/ No, I do not know how Chopin found out what had been happening in his apartment. All sources just say some variation of “he learned that____” without actually describing how. The way I represented it in this short was a creative liberty. But I don’t think anyone actually knows how he found out. We just know that he did. 3/ Berlioz intended to shoot both Marie, Marie’s mother, AND the innocent Mr. Pleyel. Fortunately, Berlioz came to his senses before he could carry out that AWFUL plan. 4/ Chopin and Liszt remained cordial after this incident, but the level of intimacy they once shared never resumed.
