They recall the aesthetics of analogue punch-cards, woven textiles, and mainframe control panels; media endemic to computation’s rich history.  Galo, also known as itsgalo, is a designer, writer, and educator. Recent Master of Science Dissertation in Emergent Technologies and Design [EmTech] Studio at Architectural Association – Linving in the Liminal by LiTing Cheng (M.Sc.), Teruyoshi Kaneko (M.Sc), Netra Mundada (M.Arch.) and Siddhi Hindalkar (MArch). Rising sea levels are redrawing coastlines, and lagoons, fragile boundaries between land and sea, are among the most vulnerable. Qigu Lagoon in Taiwan, once 150 sq km and home to 15,000 oyster farmers, has shrunk to 15 sq km as sandbars migrate inland. Static government measures like dredging and breakwaters fail to keep pace with shifting tides and sediments. This research explores how coastal defense and oyster farming can work together to protect the sandbar, restore the lagoon, and sustain its economy. By guiding rather than resisting sediment flows, it proposes small, cumulative interventions that merge natural processes with aquaculture infrastructure. Starting from the oyster shell—two tonnes produced annually, half discarded—the project recycles waste into modular construction units. Offshore, these modules aggregate to redirect sediment; onshore, they interlock to form structures for work and seasonal living. A machine-learning model predicts sediment behavior, generating responsive geometries instead of fixed plans.
