✨KoalaTeaEducation✨ People always ask me why I decided to do nails and this is why. I have concave nails which are also known as ski jump nails which means that my nails grow up and out. As you can see, I have placed a full coverage tip over my natural nail to demonstrate how there is a large difference between how my nails grow and how structurally sound a nail should be. if you look at the picture my natural nail does not have any type of Apex and as soon as my nail reaches the free edge begins to grow up and out from the nail plate. The longer my nail grows the harder it is to retain length because as you can also see once my nail reaches a certain length it starts to immediately collide where the full coverage tap meets. As a nail technician it is my job to make your nails aesthetically pleasing to the eye while providing you with proper structure and a solid foundation to prevent breaks and help you maintain long lasting enhancements. When your nails curve downward but you want more length . . . a shape adjustment can give you exactly what you're looking for! ✨💅 Some clients have nails that naturally curve downward, and while there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, sometimes you want an adjustment to fit your preference - and that's totally valid! Watch how I'm using the sanding band underneath the free edge to file off that downward curve, bringing everything upward into a more linear shape parallel to the nail bed. Then I apply extra acrylic to the tip so we can bring that underside up even more, creating an overall straighter shape that's more aligned with the finger. See that before and after? You’ve been hearing me talk about nail shapes for almost 2 months straight and one of the shapes you haven’t heard me talk about is coffin ( some also call it ballerina or tapered square) Natural nails are strongest with natural shapes and coffin is not a natural shape. It’s avant-garde 😜 • • • But why would it work for prosthetic nails and not natural nails? • • • I’ll tell you …. 1. Your nails are not symmetrical 🤷🏻‍♀️ Out of all 10 nail beds You probably got three different structures amongst them, at least. They don’t have the same curvature or the same surface space. Doing a shape like this is only going to accentuate those differences because you will not be able to make it look consistent throughout the nails. Increasing the likelihood that you will compromise the strength of the nail, trying to get it to look even. 2. This shape requires a very specific type of nail bed one that is wide, as well as as long, one that has curvature, but not so much that the edges curl in as it grows out. You need length for this shape and the longer your nails are the more the edge is curl in. 🥴 Accomplishing the shape would require an understanding that it will not be perfect. With practice you can make it look pretty decent. If the client really wants it but definitely not a shape I would recommend. Way too many things to consider and be on top of. * I do somewhat of a taper square for this client because she does have slope nails, which point upwards as it grows out, she didn’t like almond because she felt she noticed it even more and the square just looks really bulky at the end so what do you do? I do what I can prioritizing first and foremost, the health and strength of her nails, and she is fully accepting of the results, which overall aren’t terrible 😉 #TheNaturalNailGrew #NaturalNails #HealthyNails #NailShape #Miami

We don’t need to build up a big apex because the nail naturally has one already!
