All behavior is communication. The real question isn’t what your child is doing, it’s why. When you pause and look beyond the surface, you may discover that behaviors are your child’s way of asking for connection, support, or help with a skill they haven’t mastered yet. Here’s a glimpse into what some behaviors can really mean, because understanding leads to growth, not just reaction. ✨ Every behavior tells a story. Are you asking yourself why? Turn-taking isn’t forcing your child to share — it’s teaching them how to engage with others in a way that feels safe and predictable. In ABA, we focus on teaching turn-taking step by step because it: ⭐ Teaches waiting and response patterns ⭐ Supports social interaction without pressure ⭐ Helps your child learn routines and cues You can start with simple, playful activities like: 🎾 Rolling a ball back and forth 🧱 Block building — one piece at a time 🫧 Blowing bubbles and switching turns Use clear language like “my turn… your turn” and visual supports (cards, timers, or cues) to make it predictable and fun. Over time, your child learns when and how to take a turn — not just give up something they want.💜👍 #every_day_aba #turntakingskillsthroughplay #ABAForParents #AutismParents #SocialSkills 📌 Save this post to try at home today ❤️ Like if this helped you Follow @every_day_aba if you want more ABA strategies for real life✨️🍀❤️

If you’ve ever looked at another child’s ABA program and thought “Why is my child doing something completely different?” — this is for you.😊 ABA is not a template.❌️ It’s not one program copied and pasted for every child.❌️ Every ABA program is built around: ✨️ the child’s strengths ✨️ their needs and communication style ✨️ their motivations and challenges ✨️ their family routines and culture Two children can have the same diagnosis — and still need very different goals, strategies, and supports.🍀💜 For parents: ❌️ Different does NOT mean behind. ❌️ Different does NOT mean wrong. For BTs & caregivers: ✨ Individualization is not optional — it’s the foundation of ethical ABA. ✨ Our job is to meet the child where they are, not where we expect them to be. Progress isn’t about comparison.❌️ It’s about meaningful change for that child — in their real life.✅️ #every_day_aba #autismsupport #individualizedlearning #ParentsAndTherapists #autismsupermoms If this helped you breathe a little easier today, save it 🤍 If you work with children, follow @every_day_aba and share it with your your team🥰❤️

Transitions can be tough — especially when moving from a preferred to a non-preferred activity. In this session, we focused on acknowledging precursor behaviors and using them as opportunities to model functional communication as part of communication training. We also used time warnings and priming to prepare for upcoming transitions; strategies that reduce problem behavior and increase willing participation. We don’t “follow through physically” to avoid “reinforcing escape behavior.” (More on that soon)—Instead, we focus on shaping communication and prioritizing autonomy. When your approach is grounded on dignity and communication, you give learners a voice. When learners feel heard, you create conditions that learners no longer need to escape from 🦾🧠 — One of the best parts of sharing ABA sessions openly is that it creates space for learning and reflection. Every session isn’t perfect — and that’s okay. There’s always room to grow and refine how we support our learners. I noticed one or two things I could have done better. When behavior escalates at school, the first question shouldn’t be “What’s wrong with this child?” It should be: What is this behavior communicating? If your child has a disability and behavior is becoming a pattern, here’s what to consider: ✔️ Request a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) An FBA looks at the why behind the behavior triggers, patterns, and unmet needs. ✔️ Develop or revise a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) A solid BIP should include proactive supports, clear strategies, and measurable goals not just consequences. ✔️ Review the IEP Behavior tied to a disability must be addressed through supports and services. Discipline alone is not a plan. Under federal law, schools are required to consider positive behavioral interventions when behavior impacts learning. If the response is only punishment, something is missing. Your child’s behavior may be a signal not defiance. Save this for later and follow for practical, fact-based guidance on navigating IEPs and school behavior concerns. “Ignoring” in ABA isn’t mean.❌️ It’s a purposeful strategy — and it has a very specific meaning.🍀❤️ 👇 Here’s the difference: When ABA professionals talk about “ignoring,” we mean not reinforcing a specific behavior that has been getting attention or reward — but not the child themselves. The goal is to help a child learn which behaviors work to get their needs met, and which ones don’t. 💡 Example: If a child whines for attention and that always worked before, the whining was reinforced. If we stop giving attention for the whining (while still being present and supportive overall), the behavior tends to decrease — because it’s no longer getting the outcome it used to. This isn’t ignoring your child’s needs — it’s teaching them how to get your attention in a way that works. And we always pair strategies like this with teaching functional communication and reinforcing positive skills. 🥰 ✨ Ignoring damage-causing or unsafe behaviors isn’t ever appropriate. Always consult your BCBA. ✨ “Ignoring” here refers only to the behavior we’re working to reduce — not the relationship or connection with your child.❌️ #every_day_aba #AutismParents #PositiveBehaviorSupport #FunctionalCommunication #BehaviorSupport 📌 Save this if this cleared up the confusion ❤️ Like if this helped you today Follow @every_day_aba if you want more breakdowns like this🌞

Attention activities prepare the brain for learning. They support language, memory, task completion, following instructions, classroom participation, and social play. Most importantly, attention lays the foundation for academic success. But beyond academics… When you sit, play, and engage in these activities with your child, you are also building connection. You bond. You understand your child better. And your child learns best from you. #AttentionBeforeAcademics #FoundationalSkills #EarlyIntervention #ChildDevelopment #SpecialNeedsSupport LearningThroughPlay

In ABA, every decision is guided by data, not guesswork. 💬 Curious how this works for your child? We’re here to talk.

Comment “EARLY” and I’ll send you the links to Episode 7! Parents often ask me whether they should choose a school district early intervention preschool or a center based, ABA and developmental therapies program. In this clip from Episode 7 of Magnificent Minds, I explain why this decision can feel so emotionally loaded and what really differentiates these options. Even high quality school programs are not the same as a developmentally informed, ABA based therapeutic model with rigorous data tracking and medical oversight. During the early years, children change rapidly. Effective intervention has to adapt just as quickly. When we combine responsive ABA, integrated developmental therapies, and medically informed care that supports sleep, gut health, pain, and overall biology, we create an environment where learning can truly take hold.
