Tween mamas where are yall with phones? We are delaying as long as we can—I’m just not ready to hand over a phone to my kiddos! However, when the time is right, I’m thankful that Instagram is making new updates to Teen Accounts to make them even safer for teens on social media. Instagram just announced that Teen Accounts will be guided by PG-13 movie ratings, which means teens will see the kind of content on Instagram they’d expect to see in a PG-13 movie, by default. What’s even more reassuring—teens can’t opt out without a parent’s permission, and if parents want an even more restricted experience for their teen, Instagram is offering a new, stricter setting too. This is on top of the built-in protections that already come with Teen Accounts, like private accounts and the strictest messaging settings.
