Consider the word ‘wicket,’ and consider how you’d teach somebody the word if they had no idea about #cricket . Where would you start? When we examine a word like ‘wicket,’ we quickly realise how many other concepts we need to understand it. Stumps, ‘being out,’ bowler, a crease, and so on. You can do this with any sporting term or any word at all. Because we need words to define #words , and we need concepts to understand concepts. This is what Jacques #Derrida talked about in his idea of ‘deconstruction.’ Derrida argued that we often assume that there’s an immediacy between the words we use and what they represent. So, a #tree is a tree, surely? But this is to ignore the tapestry of related and necessary ideas that frame those words. For example, the word ‘tree’ comes woven with all manner of sister concepts. There’s green, leaves, bark, catkins, bole, #dryad, and so on. Chances are that you know some of these, but others you might not. The point is that we cannot assume a fixed, stable, uniform meaning for you or someone else. A tree to a #botanist is different to an #artist and different again to a #Wiccan . As Derrida wrote, ‘There is nothing outside of the text,’ that is to say, words have their own life, and there are no definitive answers ‘out there.’ There is no single tree we all refer to. Language is a phantom, fleetingly and mysteriously understood, and the best that we can hope for is not to be confused that often. #philosophy #language #linguistics #learning #education

Day 5 post mummy makeover *warning lots of bloody bandages* I had an abdominoplasty including a 7cm diastasis repair & 2 hernias fixed as well as a breast reduction & uplift The blue lines you can see on my stomach are where my boobs used to sit!! I have an extended scar as well - for best cosmetic results Lots of bruising. No major pain (except for when I cough!) Although the surgery is considered cosmetic I would consider this 100% medical. Restorative. I spoke about it before. I love what my body did. Growing and feeding my three beautiful girls but it felt broken. It was broken by all accounts. Your stomach muscles are supposed to be connected. This isn’t the surgery for everyone. And that’s ok. But this is to show that it is possible. To show how you will feel. There are a lot of you who are having it soon or are interested. I went to @surgeonsiun in Blackrock Clinic and I would highly recommend Also i do agree with the term mummy makeover being completely outdated. But this is about women doing it for themselves. And on a side note, to one comment on last post. If men had babies & went through all the amazing things that women go through then surgeries like this, well everyone would have them you can be sure. #surgery #recovery #abdominoplasty #breastreduction
