And on day 86, we made it to NEW MEXICO! The fifth & final state of the Continental Divide Trail 🤯 I feel like we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Getting through Colorado has been our biggest worry since beginning the trail. We always knew that going southbound we were in a race against winter to get through Colorado. And we made it. I get teary eyed just thinking about it because we knew it would be a challenge to get through Colorado in time with our mid/late-July start date & taking almost a week off in September to go to a wedding. But we did it. It was really bittersweet leaving Colorado, our favorite state on the trail so far, but also very exciting because Colorado was so hard in many ways. Getting to New Mexico, I feel like I can finally allow myself to think “we’ve got this” because no huge challenges lie ahead of us (ok, maybe a rattlesnake bite but hopefully not). Only 700ish miles to Mexico…can’t believe I’m saying that! What a whirlwind the CDT has been so far. Only about 150 people complete the Continental Divide Trail in a full year. 3,000 miles. Mexico to Canada. And it runs right through the middle of Grand Lake. The Continental Divide Trail is the granddaddy of American long trails - raw, high, and unforgiving. Every summer, thru-hikers pass through heading northbound or southbound. You'll see them. Trail-worn, loaded with with their packs. You can walk the same trail this afternoon. The boardwalk, the Tonahutu Spur, Rainbow Bridge. Same CDT. Happy hiking!

The Beacons are Lit, Gondor calls for aid 🔥 And Chris shall answer…. Unbelievable scenes from the CMD Arete up in the Scottish Highlands. We were hiking along the Carn Mor Dearg Ridge, (which is the best route up to the summit of Ben Nevis) around golden hour, when we were treated to these incredible . The golden rays of light which was breaking through the low cloud, lit up the mountains of the Scottish Highlands as I precariously hiked my way across the Ridgeline. It was an incredible experience which made me feel like I was in a scene from Lord of the Rings and capped off a memorable day hiking. CDT Day 3 - New Mexico, Chihuahuan Desert 21.8 miles (58.3 total miles) My first day getting water I needed to filter. There are almost zero natural water sources in this part of the desert. Caches and tanks connected to an underground spring are generally it. I’m shocked at how alive and in bloom this desert is. According to the cdt shuttle driver it’s not often like this as there have been unseasonable rains. What this place lacks in forest and alpine vistas it makes up for with enormous vibrant skies at day’s beginnings and ends. Pacing, rest and fueling is finding its rhythm. And some useless shit i packed out is going to find its way home when i get to the post office in Lordsburg. #thruhike #thruhiking #cdt #continentaldividetrail #newmexico
