I am 100% responsible for what my children eat (and don’t eat!) When has it become socially acceptable for children to eat shit and generally have an abysmal diet - on a daily and often continual basis - sugar loaded cereal for breakfast, nutrient devoid snacks (fish biscuits), sugar laden slushi or juice, gluten filled everything and processed nuggets with 2% chicken (chicken feet at best)?! I really do not give a hoot what the status quo is - what other parents do, what’s on trend, what’s “socially acceptable” or “politically correct; with childhood obesity on the rise, as parents we MUST all do better for the health of our children. My kids eat chocolate daily as part of a meal. My 6 yr old can tell you which foods are “sometimes foods” and which foods are “all the time foods”. My 7 year old will tell you which foods are protein and make you strong, which are fruits and vegetables (which veggies are not a fave!) and what foods give us energy (carbs). And which foods make our brains healthy and keep our bodies warm (fats). Is it hard to stop them eating lollies or other junk? The answer is no and they know why. And no we are not breeding eating disorders! This claim is 100% of the time coming from people who have a terrible relationship with food and self worth. Rigid rules imposed with judgement, shame, and threats = eating disorders. HOWEVER - boundaries & standards delivered with calmness, love and clear explanations = healthy relationship with food, leading by example, and teaching standards founded upon self respect and self love. I am the adult, I make the decisions and I do my best to INFLUENCE. That is the boundary. And what happens if children eat a lot of sugar? Well aside from the health problems we are opening a can of worms in emotional and behavioural issues. This is IRREFUTABLE! We have seen this in our children and hence now the tight boundary. Think your child doesn’t react to sugar? That’s like the alcoholic who needs 10x the alcohol to get drunk. They don’t react because they’re already metabolically dysfunctional. Do better. The key to continual growth and product evolution? For me, it’s the quieter moments where my best ideas are found. For a long time, I felt guilty taking time to think… but I’ve realised it’s some of the most important time. If you’re building something, give yourself space to think — not just to do. At our last camp, I laid out how we define success for MPC athletes: 1. Are they challenging themselves by signing up for competitions, and are they seeing upward trends on the leaderboard? 2. Are they making continual progress in their training, nutrition, and lifestyle? 3. Are they keeping first things first? Faith and family come before fitness.
