Initiated in 1982 by UNESCO, International Dance Day is marked around the world on April 29, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, regarded as the founder of modern ballet. At Woodland Cultural Centre, we understand dance as a living practice within Hodinohsho:ni culture, connected to healing, storytelling, spirituality, and the ongoing relationship between people, land, and memory. This lives within Continuance – Immersive Commemoration, co-presented with Kaha:wi Dance Theatre. Bringing together movement, music, language, and projection, the work reflects on the history of the former Mohawk Institute while celebrating Indigenous cultural continuance.
