I build a mood board not around locations, but around emotions: warmth, solitude, connection, distance. Neuroscientists have demonstrated that our brains process emotional images more quickly than neutral ones; emotion is literally the bridge between perception and memory (Kensinger & Schacter, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2008). Then I chase that feeling in real life, sometimes in a city that never sleeps, sometimes in a silent field at sunrise. 2) Inspiration usually finds me in contrasts: light and dark, motion and stillness, chaos and peace.  When I encounter a scene, like a building breathing with the rhythm of human life, I focus on these opposing forces and how they coexist. Research refers to this phenomenon as “affective contrast,” where opposites intensify the emotional impact of an image (Palmer & Schloss, PNAS, 2010). 3) Once I find that tension, the story forms naturally. The final concept isn’t about perfection; it’s about honesty.  If the photo or clip makes you feel something, even something small, then it’s complete. Perfection can make an image beautiful, but authenticity makes it human. Studies show that viewers engage longer with visuals that reveal subtle irregularities or traces of real life, because the brain associates them with sincerity and truth (Reber et al., Psychological Science, 2004). So, I let the spontaneity stay, the flicker of a light, the blur of motion, the shadow in the corner. These are the visual “heartbeat” of a moment. When I look back at my work, the most powerful frames are often those I didn’t plan, the ones that simply happened.” 🎨🎥
