When mother’s are aware and use tools to help process the trauma they can typically repair trauma bonds and better prevent passing on generational trauma. Key Differences in Parenting Behavior: Trauma History: Might parent through a lens of fear, potentially causing the child to be hyper-attuned to the mother's mood, often leading to parentification (child acts as parent). No Trauma History or Processed Trauma: Typically provides a safe, predictable environment allowing the child to develop a healthy, secure attachment. Mothers with a history of trauma may show these signs: Hypervigilance: A persistent, anxious belief that danger is imminent, resulting in overprotective behavior or high anxiety. During the Holocaust, there was an extraordinary need to be creative, a phenomenon in which women were active participants. In the final episode of our #WomensHistory series, we shed light on poet Selma Merbaum-Eisinger. Artistic creativity was a source of oxygen amidst suffocation. Whether used to express pain or, conversely, to escape reality through laughter and irony, it provided a vehicle for people to express the essence of their talents. Selma was a Romanian-born German-language poet. Her poems were preserved in a booklet she gave to her boyfriend, Leiser Fichman, and later published under the title “Blütenlese”. While this series has come to an end, the stories and legacies of women in the Holocaust accompany us all year long, serving as a constant reminder of the strength of the human spirit.
