Cut through the AI overwhelm 🫠 3 simple habits that actually make a difference: 1. Onboard your AI - treat it like a new employee. Tell it who you are, who you help and how you sound (the more examples of your work the better). The easiest way to do this? Let it interview you and turn your answers into a guide you can save and reuse. 2. Stop typing. Start talking. Find the mic icon in your AI tool and make voice your default. Not occasionally. Your default. It’s X4 quicker and it will make the biggest difference to how often you use AI with all your work. 3. Own your week - every Monday, open AI and tell it what a successful week looks like. Ask it to sort your tasks using the Eisenhower Matrix - what to do, what to schedule, what to delegate and what to drop. Let it help you protect your time. Most people open Copilot and just start asking it to write code. No structure, no memory, no standards. Then wonder why the output is shit 💩 Here are 3 things I set up that made Copilot actually useful: 1. Keep a local project structure — everything lives under one roof Create one parent folder. Every sub-project, every reference doc , every experiment goes inside it. Copilot’s agent mode works way better when it can see the full picture instead of random scattered folders. It picks up on patterns across your codebase and gives you way more relevant suggestions. 2. Add a knowledge.md file at the project level This gives Copilot your role, your team’s business context, what the company does, who the users are. Without this it’s just guessing. With it, the suggestions actually make sense for your specific situation. 3. Set up global agent skills — these are the big ones Think of each skill as a reusable instruction set Copilot follows every time. Here are the 4 I use: Validation — every output gets checked against defined rules before it’s considered done Standard of working — coding conventions, naming patterns, how we structure things here PR scan — automated privacy review checklist so no personal/sensitive/confidential data ships without being checked End session — this one’s my fav. When I’m done working, it wraps the full context for handover to next session and also appends to a devlog.md file with what was built, what decisions were made, any pivots and why, mistakes, and next steps. By the end of the project you basically have full documentation written for you The pattern here is the same whether it’s Claude Code or Copilot — give your AI tool structure, memory, and context.
