Schwarzlinien-Salmler Moenkhausia costae Erstbeschreibung Rudolf Kner, 1858 Der Schwarzlinien-Salmler ist ein friedlicher Schwarmfisch aus Südamerika und seit über 160 Jahren bekannt. Er stammt aus den Gewässern des Amazonas und seiner Nebenflüsse, wo er in großen Gruppen die mittleren Wasserschichten bewohnt. Sein auffälligstes Merkmal ist das durchgehende, dunkle Längsband von der Schnauze bis zur Schwanzwurzel. Dieses dient in der Natur nicht nur der Tarnung, sondern auch dem Schutz im Schwarm: Die Streifen verschmelzen optisch, was Fressfeinde irritiert. Im Aquarium wird der Schwarzlinien-Salmler etwa 5–6 cm groß. Er fühlt sich nur im Schwarm mit mindestens 10 Artgenossen wohl und zeigt dort sein natürliches Sozialverhalten. Mit anderen friedlichen Fischen ist er hervorragend zu vergesellschaften und eignet sich sowohl für Einsteiger als auch für erfahrene Aquarianer. Für die Haltung empfiehlt sich weiches bis mittelhartes Wasser bei 23–27 °C. Eine abwechslungsreiche Ernährung aus Flocken-, Frost- und Lebendfutter erhält Vitalität und Farbbrillanz. Besonders schön wirken die Fische über dunklem Bodengrund und zwischen dichter Bepflanzung, wo ihr silbrig-glänzender Körper mit dem schwarzen Längsband perfekt zur Geltung kommt.
