🏡✨If there were cottagecore aesthetic subsets, you’d certainly find me under the rustic Irish thatch category. There’s just something so rustic & homey about these cottages - the stark white lime wash, the golden yellow of the thatched roof, the turf fire smoke puffing out of the chimney, the kitchen dresser loaded with decorative plates, saucers, & knick knacks, & of course the cozy hearth, all so iconically & quintessentially Irish (and another favorite little added detail is the “Mind Your Head” signs you’ll find above door thresholds) 🚪😆 🍃🕰️As cute as they are durable - these cottages embody Ireland’s centuries of tradition, vernacular history, rural heritage & way of life. These stone cottages offered everything one could need - shelter, a place for community, & even a trade to earn a wage. Céilithe (social gatherings with traditional folk music & dancing) were held at private residences & the trade of thatching offered skilled work to generations of families as it was passed down from father to son & so on. But now the trade of thatching is seeing a decline, but there is a movement to preserve this important skill & therefore a piece of Irish heritage. Just spent some time documenting the truly wild scene at Laytown Beach, Co. Meath 📍🤯 ​The recent storm completely rearranged the seabed and the result is... this. It has over 45 attractions, and this includes rides, immersive themed lands, and a zoo with more than 250 animals. There’s… 🧚‍♀️ Tír na nÓg: A 6.5-acre area inspired by Irish mythology which features Europe’s largest intertwining rollercoaster, Na Fianna Force, along with The Quest and The Celtic Dreamer… 🎢 Cú Chulainn Coaster: Their high-speed wooden coaster (some of us loved it, some did not as it was a steep drop!). 💦 Viking Voyage: This is Ireland’s only water flume ride! It’s supposed to combine storytelling and a “gentle thrill ride” but it wasn’t open yet when we were there!l. 🎈 Junior Zone: The kids area, for the little ones. 🐘 The Zoo: You can explore habitats like Lemur Woods, the Petting Farm, and listen to Zoo Talks led by the zookeepers. Naturally, I loved this part - AND we were lucky enough to watch a tiger fed its dinner! (It was part-gruesume, part amazing. I’ll share on my stories!) Lastly, a little tip – if you plan ahead, you can take advantage of the Early Bird Discount and save up to 20% by booking online before midnight the night before your visit. Also, another good way to save money is to buy a membership. Adult tickets are normally €52 without early bird pricing, but a membership is €130 for the year and with that you get 20% off all food and drink plus other discounts!
