I'm beyond excited to bring back Generations of Vocal Jazz on February 22nd! 🎶 This collaboration started in 2019 with a vision: bring together ALL generations of choral jazz singers—elementary students, college voices, and adult community choirs—creating something magical through the sounds of Black American Music. Then the pandemic hit. We kept the dream alive, but we're just now able to fully revive it. On February 22nd at 7pm, Capital City Voices joins forces with the incredible high school choir Knight and Day (directed by Barry Moten) at Creative Cauldron in Falls Church. Watch me blow through assembling 30 mini cauldrons for this year's Renn Faires! Now that it's all sped up I couldn't add any extra sounds or music, I found the tippy taps from working too amusing to cover. I realized while making these that theyre definitely a labor of love. I touch each one SO many times. Teaching and having so many students comment on how much more involved the process is than they were expecting has made me realize how often people don't know the full extent of behind the scenes for things that are made by hand. So here's a general list of the steps. Each step could be broken down further, but you get the point 😜 1. Throw the cauldron 2. Put it away and monitor until its stiff enough to trim 3. Trim it 4. Put it away and monitor, making sure to keep it wet enough until I have attachments ready 5. Make 3 little footsies blanks 6. Add the toes to each footsie 7. Make 2 little handles 8. Smooth each cauldron 9. Lay out the feet 10. Attach said feet 11. Score for handles 12. Layout said handles 13. Smooth attachment areas 14. Dry and touch up as needed 15. Load each one individually 16. Unload 17. Dip outsides 18. Pour insides 19. Dip rims 20. Clean off bottoms of the feet 21. Reload into glaze kiln 22. Unload 23. Sand bottoms of the feet.
