It started with a strange account that appeared on European forums and later leaked onto TikTok under the name Horsegiirl. The videos were unsettling. Grainy footage of Berlin’s empty streets at night. A stable door creaking open. A girl in a cracked horse mask, standing perfectly still under the streetlights. At first, people thought it was performance art. Berlin is known for avant-garde projects, after all. But the videos became darker. One clip showed her galloping on all fours through the subway tunnels, the camera shaking as if someone was chasing — or being chased. Another showed her standing outside an apartment building, motionless for hours. Commenters swore they recognized the location, but whenever anyone visited, nothing was there. Then came the disappearances. Two users who claimed to have “found” Horsegiirl’s filming locations stopped posting entirely. Their last messages were the same: “I heard hooves outside.” Police never confirmed anything, calling it internet paranoia. But Berlin locals whisper about it. They say if you walk near abandoned factories late at night, you’ll hear hooves on concrete. Not running — pacing. Waiting. Screenshots of the account still appear. Always the same masked girl, always staring. The username changes, but the horse emoji in the bio remains. Some insist Horsegiirl is just an art collective. The sound of an oak tree creaking 🌳 While traveling through Brittany, I came across a small, quiet hamlet, with a chapel at the edge of the path. Right next to it stood several very old oak trees. These oaks are hollow and split. Their shape comes from lightning strikes that hit them over time. They no longer have a heartwood, yet they’re still alive. Leaves continue to grow. One of them was open enough to step inside. I did. It was the first time I ever recorded the sound of a tree from inside its trunk. When I looked up, I could see the entire internal structure of the tree. A special experience! That day, the wind was blowing: perfect conditions to record the creaking of this old tree 🌬️ To capture the sound, I used a combination of a geophone and a contact microphone. Together, they offer a fuller frequency range. #reels #science
