SADDLE EXPLAINER #6 TREE POINTS The tree points (often called simply 'points') are the forward extensions of the saddle tree that sit on either side of your horse’s withers. Depnding on the saddle costruction, you may or may not be able to see the tree points easily from the outside of the saddle. The length of the tree points makes a significant difference to how the saddle performs. Longer tree points extend further down the front of the panel. This can help provide additional stability at the front of the saddle. On horses with higher or longer withers, or a deeper drop into the ribcage, longer tree points can assist with support and balance. Shorter tree points often suit horses with shorter withers or a flatter front profile, where excessive length could interfere with movement. If tree points are too long for the horse’s shape, they may restrict shoulder freedom. If they are too short, the saddle may lack stability and concentrate pressure over a smaller area.
