You’re not alone, and you matter, dad. When I became a dad in 2016, I was alone. Not in the literal sense. I still had my wife and our new baby. But I was alone in the thoughts. I didn’t know how to be a dad. The advice I was getting wasn’t very useful. I wasn’t worried about changing a diaper. I knew I could figure that out. But no one explained postpartum to me. No one explained the worries I was having or if they were even normal. I’ve learned a lot on this journey of fatherhood through many mistakes and failures. Some of you may know I finished my first book that comes out next year, and I believe it will be a valuable resource for dads and all parents. I want to start expanding this community, so I wrote a 21-page e-book. It’s small, but I think it’s useful. The Morning Shift Sometimes as new dads you can feel a bit useless in the early stages… You are not though, there is plenty to do! I love waking up early and grabbing baby for the morning. It allows mum a small window to rest without interruption and you can’t to build a special bond with your baby. Always reflect on the previous day and think about how you can be as helpful as possible. Pregnancy takes such a toll and it’s our job to be supportive and show up. As tired dads, modern dads, modern husbands… I believe these statistics will continue to improve over time. According to the American Psychological Association, fathers today are more likely to say they want to be emotionally available and involved—not just providers. And compared to 1965, dads now spend three times as much time with their children. Yes, there are societal factors that have changed, but this generation of fathers is stepping up in a new way. We’re showing up for our families. This video may show one relationship falling apart, but I hope the message is clear. It’s a call to action—especially for the younger generation. I see you, tired dads. Keep showing up.
