Daryl Dragon earned his “Captain” nickname from Beach Boy Mike Love because of the nautical captain’s hat he constantly wore while performing. Captain and Tennille’s most famous track, “Love Will Keep Us Together” (1975), became the best-selling single of that year and won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. Toni wrote several of the group’s major hits, including “The Way I Want to Touch You” and the chart-topping “Do That to Me One More Time” (their second number one hit). They hosted their own TV variety show on ABC from 1976 to 1977. Toni also sang on albums like Elton John’s Caribou and Pink Floyd’s The Wall. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of one million units.
