Carmen Donnelly knows what it takes to keep YEG moving. She started her career as a summer student at YEG, and the airport has been her home ever since. Now, as Vice President, Passenger Experience & Terminal Operations, Carmen is an important member of the executive leadership team. Over the next week, we’ll be featuring women who work at YEG in different stages of their careers in the aviation sector. After retiring from the industry, these two White Hat Volunteers found their way back to aviation and now continue to care for a place that has long felt like home—YYC. Meet Louise Ingram and Doreen Strech. After starting her aviation career as a flight attendant with Air Canada (long before it was called Air Canada), Louise went on to spend more than 23 years working for various airlines. In the 70s, Doreen was among the first six women to work in sheet metal and riveting on large aircraft. After a year, she was the only woman who had stuck with it. Their stories represent the women who care for this airport, past and present, and the people who make YYC a place of connection and welcome. Last night we welcomed a full room of students, industry professionals and community members for Celebrating Okanagan Women in Aviation - an intimate fireside conversation during Women in Aviation Week. Our panel featured incredible leaders across the industry: Christina von Bulow - First Officer @aircanada Ellena Schuffert - Duty Manager @ylwkelowna Rianne Stanway - Flight Service Specialist & Team Supervisor @navcanada.ca Beth Christianos - Rotary Pilot @le_aerospace Doreen Olson - Ret Flight Attendant @aircanada Throughout the evening, our speakers shared the realities of building a career in aviation - the paths, challenges and the importance of mentorship.
