Back in September 2024, everyone told us: “You won’t be back home for years.” We refused to believe it… until the universe said, “Actually, yes. Years.” Three general contractors later… Four rental houses… Dozens of Pinterest boards abandoned like broken dreams… and we’re finally watching walls rise again. When a tenant moves out, the real work begins. The first step in any renovation isn’t installing new cabinets or picking paint colors — it’s clearing the slate. Anything left behind has to go. Old furniture. Trash. Broken appliances. Whatever the tenants didn’t take with them. Once the property is cleared out, we move into demo day. This is where we start removing everything that no longer belongs in the house. Old vanities, damaged fixtures, outdated materials — anything that’s going to be replaced gets torn out in this phase. The goal is simple: Strip the property down enough that we can clearly see what we’re working with. Once the junk is gone, you can evaluate the structure, identify what needs repair, and start planning the updates that will bring the property back to life. Every remodel starts the same way.
