We went on a little road trip getaway to Des Moines last weekend and it was the perfect way start to road trip season! 🛣️ Check out my last 2 reels for a couple of unique roadside stops from Minnesota to Des Moines. 🚙 Here’s a sample itinerary for 2 days in Des Moines ☕️ There are seriously so many good coffee shops in Des Moines, but we’ll start with the East Village at Vibrant Coffeehouse. Also in East Village is the popular Scenic Route Bakery, Nosh Cafe and Daisy Chain Coffee. 🏛️The Iowa State Capitol is a must stop when visiting Des Moines. The top of the building’s gold dome is astonishing, but even better if you can do a tour inside and see the beautiful architecture and the law library 🛍️ Check out the cute shops in the East Village. There are many shops along E Locust Street but be sure to check out Raygun and the Storyhouse book pub one street up on E Grand Ave 🍕Last time I was in Des Moines, I tried the Crab Rangoon pizza from Fongs and had to get it again since I’ve been craving it ever since. So delicious. 🏨 This time we stayed at the Surety Hotel which used to be a former bank. I loved my room and the bathroom was swoon worthy. It is pet friendly however I will say there’s not a whole lot of green space for your pup to do their business. Next time, I would probably try to stay in the East Village. 🍳 If you stay at Surety, have brunch at The Mulberry Street Tavern (or dinner would be great as well) 💐 Check out the Des Moines Botanical Garden (there is a cafe here for lunch if hungry- check times on their website) 🌉 Just down the road from the botanical gardens, visit the Robert D Ray Asian Garden and the Women of Achievement bridge. 🍻To end the night, check out the eateries and bars/nightlife on Court Avenue. But also, 🍏You must check out the Saturday Farmers Market that will open in May. I was so bummed this wasn’t open on my visit because it’s such an incredible experience. Do you like coffee? Then you have to try these out. My three favorite coffee shops in the Des Moines metro. • Lightbrite Coffee Roasters The quality of their coffee is 🤌🏼 and they roast their coffee in the back. I love their seasonal menus they bring out for a limited time. The drinks are always creative, fun, and delicious. • Northern Vessel This coffee shop is newer to the area but so good. They have tasty signature lattes and one of my favorites is their Chagaccino that is made with mushrooms. Don’t hate it till you try it. • Zanzibar’s Coffee Adventure They roast their coffee in house, so it always smells amazing when you walk in. They have great coffee and they also offer some breakfast dishes.
