Regular testing is mandatory as per fire safety standards and local fire department regulations. --- 1️⃣ Visual Inspection Before testing, conduct a complete physical inspection: Check sprinkler heads for damage, corrosion, paint, or blockage Ensure proper spacing and alignment Verify pipe supports and hangers Check control valves are in open position Inspect pressure gauges for normal reading 👉 This ensures the system is ready for functional testing. --- 2️⃣ Main Drain Test This test checks the water supply health and pressure. Procedure: Record static pressure (no flow condition) Open main drain valve fully Record residual pressure (flow condition) Compare with previous test readings 🔎 If pressure drops significantly, it may indicate: Pipe obstruction Partially closed valve Underground leakage --- 3️⃣ Alarm Test (Water Flow Test) Purpose: To check whether the alarm system activates when water flows. Procedure: Open inspector’s test valve Confirm: Water motor gong operates Fire alarm panel receives signal Pump starts automatically (if installed) This ensures proper integration between sprinkler and fire alarm system. --- 4️⃣ Fire Pump Testing If a fire pump is installed: Conduct churn test (no flow test) Conduct full flow test (100% capacity) Check: Pressure readings RPM Diesel level (if diesel pump) Battery condition --- 5️⃣ Pressure Testing (Hydrostatic Test) Done during installation or major repair. System filled with water Pressure maintained at 1.5 times working pressure Hold for 2 hours Check for leakage or pressure drop --- 6️⃣ Quarterly & Annual Testing According to fire safety codes like NFPA standards: Weekly: Pump run test Monthly: Valve inspection Quarterly: Alarm device testing Annually: Full system inspection (Indian projects generally follow NBC guidelines along with NFPA recommendations.) --- 7️⃣ Documentation After testing: Record pressure readings Note deficiencies Prepare test report
