𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝘂𝘇𝗼 𝗢𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗶 Mangas: Happiness, Aku no Hana, Chi no Wadachi, Devil Ecstasy, Okaeri Alice, Shino-chan wa Jibun no Namae ga Ienai, Sweet Poolside, Kosukabe-San The most attractive factor for Shuzo Oshimi for me is his Simplicity. He doesn't go with with Complex art style like Boichi or Junji Ito, rather he's more influenced by the art style of Naoki Urasawa & Inio Asano. He uses pretty similar character designs in every other mangas of him. But this isn't a big turn off for us as readers. Rather each time we find Dynamic elements in their characteristics because of the dark, complex story line. Oshimi loves to play with Reader's psychology. His works are often lauded for their psychological depth, complex characters, & vivid imagery. Specifically his Foreshadowings are quite similar to Naoki Urasawa. While Naoki plays with Macro Psychological aspects such as Murders, Genocides, Historical Conspiracy theories, Manipulation; Oshimi is more towards Micro Psychology. Kinda like Inio Asano. Oshimi's Surrealistic art blended with Japanese school life, domestic culture & tremendously depressing Japanese Urban life style shows us the the reality of Life in a larger spectrum. My Personal favorite is his Chi no Wadachi(Blood on the tracks) as it really is a nightmare for me. I'll never dare to revisit it as it's really disturbing to read a Mother's Sexual Obsession towards his Son.
