Charlie, Bo, Delilah, Lilac and Cinderella! Meet the fab five Dexter cows who are grazing our rough pasture fields in the higher valley. Their work will help to reduce some of the tougher grasses, allowing some more delicate species to find space alongside. The poaching of their hooves will open up the sward and small invertebrates and seeds can also use these spaces to proliferate. Their pats offer up food and breeding sites for dung beetles, which in turn are a great food source for bats and many other animals. This is a useful dynamic system which creates a more balanced environment for diversity, providing the grazing is done with a light touch. And of course they are just lovely to have around!
