Feelings around pregnancy are complicated! 
They almost always involve a dialectic—meaning mixed feelings. Some are terrified they’ll experience the same debilitating nausea or birth trauma but grateful to bring another member into their family. Some are elated after years of infertility and fearful this pregnancy will also end in a loss. Some are confused about how this could happen so soon and a bit excited to give their child a sibling. Some are giddy with excitement and disappointed at their family’s response. Some do not want to be pregnant and aren’t sure how to move forward. Some are unsure how to feel! So when someone tells me they’re pregnant I do not respond with “congratulations” unless we have been working together for a long time and I know they’re very excited! Usually, I ask how they’re feeling and if they’re feeling excited I’m excited with them and if they’re something else I validate that experience. Yes’m (and no). #dialectics meaning any extreme state has an equal and opposite energy, and the infinite in between… my beloved found family with spouse and child has healed so much of my #holidayseason #joy But #traumarecovery is a lifelong journey. This isn’t #parenting #blame No, not at all. I love an honor my family as deep as depths go. We are a product of #systemic #biases and #chasm ripping at stability much of my childhood. I am #indebted to the #highereducation opportunities that allowed me to shift #limbicsystem issues into #language.
