A lived-in color refresh//The hair that keeps on giving months and months later. The whole point is that it still looks gorgeous even after 8+ months. Less is more with brunettes; this was 13 foils. The natural color is the star, just wanted to enhance it. I painted v’s in the foil because it creates the prettiest dimension that doesn’t look like traditional “highlights”. The key here is maintaining depth even in that foil. Place and paint with intention my friends 👌🏼 @aretepro enlightenment powder for the lift and our glosses for her final tones. But the blends were so good I could have just left it! Painting the town warm The DV way ….. Warm or cool brunette… how do you choose? Ultimately as a Haircolorist you guide and lead with knowledge and your expertise.,l but the clients chooses ! With her skin tone, I was happy she choose warm 🤍 She wanted to feel brunette glossy & rich. eliminate the faded pieces of level 8 that was previously highlighted. She felt like it was too scattered and too light! Remember all color fades eventually and if your client ask you “how will it fade ?” It’s important to not guarantee what it will fade to , this really depends on where they live, what water they consume, their home maintenance products, hot tools how often…. So many factors. The reason I used my balayage zig zag hand painted techniques is because I only wanted to lift 2-5 levels. I also wanted to maintain a lot of depth, so this is perfect for your dimensional brunettes. Using my hand painting balayage technique you need minimal foils. I did 4 pieces of balayage in each quad. using zig zag sections. I surface painted the whole head. Giving the illusion that her base color wasn’t as dark (level 3) but it was still living at a level 4 , the undertone being warmer makes it appear lighter. However the previous color was living at a level 8. I lifted her only to a level 7. And zone toned her to a rich level 5 chocolate almond brown . We Gave her round long interior layers for her haircut. This almost looked like a tone on tone solid color. It was low contrast and natural. As someone who lovesss creating high contrast looks… I’ve learned a few things over the years👇🏻 🖤i love at least 3 levels’ difference between contrasting colors for the ultimate dimension 🖤Adding depth directly next to a lightened piece will create maximum POP! 🖤Darkening the root is almost always recommended. It just really enhances the contrast! 🖤Vertical foils & chunky weaves will be your best friend 🖤Taking small, fine sections, back to back instead of larger sections at a time will get you maximum lift & lightness 🖤 @redkenpro Flash Lift Power 9 with bonder inside is my go to!! Up to 9 levels of lift and the hair feels incredible every time🙌🏼 🖤A partial balayage is all that is needed in most cases. Leaving the nape area all dark will ensure dimension and depth! 🖤I start my lightness where the hair falls vertically, past the round of the head! Meaning- I don’t bring my lightness up all the way to the root. The hair lays more horizontally on top of the head in that area which can easily look “stripey” or harsh. Through using the right section size , product and balayage technique that will give you maximum lift. If I lifted her to a level 7 and toned on top with a level 7 formula it will appear even darker. This ash has a reflect of translucent, it’s been lifted to a level 8z if it was a level 7 it would look more opaque less ashy more deeper warm.
