We asked him what he looks for in an animated performance, and why the film’s animators were an essential part of the creative process. Here is more about Cherien : Cherien Dabis is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and actress celebrated for her authentic and groundbreaking Arab American storytelling. Her latest feature, All That’s Left of You, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival and has won 13 international festival awards including seven audience awards. It’s Jordan’s Official Submission for Best International Feature Film for the 98th Academy Awards®. Dabis made her feature debut with Amreeka (2009), which premiered at Sundance before winning the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes. The film went on to collect more than a dozen international awards, three Independent Spirit Award nominations, a Gotham Award nomination for Best Picture, and a place on the National Board of Review’s Top Ten Independent Films of the Year. She followed with May in the Summer (2013), her second feature and acting debut, which opened Sundance after earning the prestigious Sundance/NHK International Filmmaker Award, and went on to screen at Venice. In television, Dabis earned an Emmy nomination for her critically acclaimed, silent episode of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building and has directed standout episodes of Ozark, Ramy, and more.
