How to throw like a pro↓ 1️⃣ Keep the disc back lead with your legs. Push your weight over your left leg and allow your sweep leg to attack the throw while you keep the disc pinned back behind your butt. This should create a lot of separation on your core and torso 2️⃣ Retain separation in the middle. Don’t rush your upper body. Instead let your legs do the work while staying as neutral as possible with your upper body 3️⃣ Land in a closed position. If you followed the two previous steps you should be landing in a pretty closed position. It should be balanced and the disc should be as far back as possible. 4️⃣ Accelerate using the tension you have created. Allow your lower body to turn first to maximise your separation and accelerate your upper body. This should create a whip effect that will transfer all your energy from your body to your pointer finger and apply spin to the disc. It is all about the details and you have to be aware, in order to become a pro! Follow if you found this helpful!!

I added 62 feet to this throw. Here’s how: Most people see a 48m throw and panic. I don’t—because I’ve been here before. That throw wasn’t a mystery… it was a message. The disc came out with the right edge way too far down, wind caught it, and killed it instantly. So instead of freaking out, I ran the checklist: Did I drop the arm? Did I lose the core and tilt right? Did I stop climbing through the finish? Usually it’s not one thing—it’s a combination. So the goal isn’t to fix everything… it’s to lock back into ONE cue that cleans it all up. For me, it was simple: ➡️ Stay long and climb aggressively through the release. No overhaul. No panic. Just execution. Next throw: 67.25m. That’s the difference— not avoiding bad throws… but knowing they don’t mean you’re far off. They just tell you what to fix.

Keep chopping wood 🪵🪓 I’m starting to lock in some of the positions we have been working to get into with some things to clean up. I’ll be working out of the South African drill for now and transitioning to the full throw next. I’m excited 🤗 #trackandfield #discusthrow #womeninsports

Most throwers don’t have a power problem. They have a ground contact problem. I was reviewing one of my athletes, Joey, and the biggest difference wasn’t speed or effort—it was what his right foot and right hip were doing at the finish. Notice how his right foot stays connected to the ground longer than you’re probably comfortable with. That contact is everything. The ground is what lets you apply force. The second you jump or pop up, the throw is over—no matter how strong or fast you are. A common mistake I see: Athletes get the hip to the right sector… then it lifts off early. At that point, you’re just spinning, not accelerating. What Joey does well is he keeps turning against the ground, letting the hip continue to work all the way until it’s pointed down the left sector before release. Coaching cue to try: Feel like the right foot is “heavy” and the hip is still working after you think the throw should be done. That’s where real distance comes from. #Shotput #Discus #TrackAndField
