The path of the discus is one of the most critical aspects of a powerful throw. A bigger orbit means a longer acceleration path, allowing you to apply more force into the implement and generate higher spin—ultimately leading to greater distances. Here’s how the ideal discus path works: 1️⃣ First Low Point – At the back of the circle, as you pass over your left leg, you’re setting up the throw’s angle. Keep the discus low and behind your hip to create the first low point. This positions you for optimal acceleration. 2️⃣ High Point – As you step into the middle, the discus should rise just before you plant your block leg. This helps create a large path of acceleration and shifts your balance over the right leg, setting you up for maximum rotation and force transfer. 3️⃣ Second Low Point – Naturally, as you drive into the release, the discus will drop again. This second low point ensures you achieve the perfect release angle and optimal discus orbit for maximum flight efficiency.
